At the last meeting of my woodturning club Dan Long and Emory Mclaughlin gave us a great demonstration on how to turn a natural edge bowl. At the end of the demonstration our challenge was to turn a natural edge bowl for the Instant Gallery at our next meeting.
This week I spent some time at the lathe putting into practice what I learned during the demonstration. I took the opportunity to video the process and made up a video. I used to do a lot of video work when I worked as a skydiving photographer/videographer so it felt good to use my video camera again, although I had to blow the dust off it as it’s been sitting in the closet for a long time. Editing the video using the computer was also new to me, previously I have only done linear editing.
I had fun turning the bowl and making the video and I hope you enjoy watching it.

Thanks Keith for this very nice introduction.
I enjoyed watching every bit of it—every cut of the wood.
I’d love to see the edge burned bowl in finished look—what finish did you apply?
Cheers,

I’m glad you enjoyed the video Jake. I have not finished the bowl yet. Time permitting, I’m going to try and do a short video of the burning of the rim. I have to finish the bowl by Thursday, so once I’ve burnt the rim I will probably only have time for a lacquer finish.
